Interlex becomes the first translation agency in Estonia to pass the ISO 18587:2017 certification for machine translation

On 4 August, an annual supervisory audit of the translation standard ISO 17100:2015 took place at Interlex. We have been certified in accordance with the given translation standard since 2017, and previously we had an ISO 9001:2015 certificate. It is a particular pleasure to announce that after passing the ISO 18587:2017 certification for post-editing of machine translation output, we are now the first Estonian translation agency to hold the ISO 18587:2017 certificate.

Inge Rätsep, CEO of Interlex, explains the meaning of the standard: ‘As translation needs and volumes have grown exponentially around the world, machine translation systems are gradually becoming a natural part of the translation process. Interlex has always kept pace with developments in the field. In the Estonian market, we are more like pioneers, who are among the first to try and bring new processes to the market.’

‘The ISO 18587:2017 standard for post-editing of machine translation output regulates and establishes requirements for both the qualifications of post-editors and the nature of the texts to be translated. This means that machine translation is only part of a comprehensive translation service process and no compromises are made with regard to translation quality. The main advantage of using machine translation is the translation speed. When working with machine-translated texts, the translator or editor no longer has to type the text into the CAT tool but can instead delve into the content and terminology of the text.’

I would like to thank the entire team for introducing this great innovation!

Special thanks to those who implemented the processes: Business Development Manager Nele Koduvere, Vendor Manager Kadri Pultsin, and Senior Project Manager Kristin Issak.
